Without a doubt, Ondo state is one of the most culturally diverse states in Nigeria. The sunshine state boasts of many tribal groups with different cultures and languages.
Of the many groups and division, iLaje/Seen Odo have been deputy Governor, Okitipupa/irele have been Governor, Akuresouth/North have been deputy governor, Akoko south west/south east have been Governor, Akoko Northwest/ Northeast have been deputy governor, Owo/Ose have been Governor, Ondo East/ Ondo west have been Governor. few regions that should be considered remains: idanre/ifedore, ileojuji/okeigbo etc.
Apart from being denied the opportunity to develop like the major groups, the door of Alagbaka topmost seat has been shut against them.
This is not because these minority groups do not have capable hands to serve. However, this is the result of the “minority can not rule us” agenda of some few persons in the state.
Most especially the established philanthropist and successful banker, and a world class farmer.
To be specific, Dr. Victor Ayodeji Oritedi has attended over 20 professional trainings to update his skills on how to make the sun shine the more and have also learnt new innovations. He is a member of several professional institutions in Nigeria and across the globe; which include, Senior Research Fellow (SRF) of the institute for commerce and Enterprises Development of Nigeria, Associate Member, National Institute of Marketing in Nigeria(NIMN), Full Membership, Chartered Institute of Management and Leadership (C.I.M.L.) USA, Fellow, Chartered Institute of Information and Strategic Management.
As the Head of Sales in Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc, he introduced and implemented a clear vision and strategy for the company’s B2C and B2B input sales and he ensured working synergy with all the distributors.
He is a Global Eminent Peace Ambassador of the United Nations, he is a specialist with USAID FTF Nigeria Agricultural Extension and Advisory Services Activities. He is responsible for the activities of MSMEs and cohorts within seven States in Nigeria.
Ayodeji Oritedi is a very good example of what Ondo State is missing by not embracing the option of allowing other minority tribes to lead the state.
Competency and development should be considered over other criteria so that our state can match with other fast developing states.
As we approach the 2024 Gubernatorial election, the people of Ondo state should look towards these minority groups to elect a capable hand that can replace Akeredolu.
