Ondo State, a land blessed with rich culture and natural beauty, has recently faced a series of pressing issues that demand immediate attention. As the heartbeat of any society, the youth have a vital role to play in advocating for positive change and progress. It is high time for the youth groups and student unions/associations of Ondo State to unite, raise their voices, and demand accountability from those in power.
One of the most noticeable issues plaguing Ondo State is the state of the capital, Akure. Once a clean and vibrant city, it has now fallen into disrepair, with littered streets and poorly maintained public spaces. It is a far cry from the city it once was, and it’s high time for the youth to speak up and demand a cleaner and more livable environment.
In addition to the state capital’s cleanliness, the lack of basic infrastructure facilities is a concern. The youth and students groups should question why the roads, healthcare facilities, and educational institutions are in such a deplorable state. It’s the responsibility of the government to ensure that these services are accessible to all citizens, and it’s the duty of the youth to hold them accountable.
The political landscape in Ondo State has been marred by unnecessary conflicts, infighting, and a lack of cooperation. The youth must challenge this behavior and encourage our leaders to put the interests of the state above personal ambitions. The focus should be on development and progress, not on petty political disputes.
One of the most pressing issues that has alarmed the citizens of Ondo State is the prolonged absence of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu from public office. His absence has been prolonged and without explanation. It is time to demand transparency and accountability, seeking answers to questions about the governor’s health and ability to lead effectively.
Governor Akeredolu’s failure to participate in important state events, such as the National Independence Day celebration on October 1st, is a clear indication of his neglect of his duties. The youths and student groups should challenge this behavior, as it is their right to have a leader who actively participates in the affairs of the state and the nation.
In light of the above concerns, the youth groups and student unions/associations in Ondo State should take a strong stance. They should actively demand Governor Akeredolu’s resumption of office or his resignation if he is unable to fulfill his responsibilities. It is the youth’s future that is at stake, and they have the right to demand competent leadership.
Ondo State has the potential to be a shining example of progress, development, and good governance. However, it is the responsibility of the youth to challenge the current state of affairs and demand better. The issues of a dirty state capital, poor infrastructure, political infighting, and the governor’s prolonged absence cannot be ignored any longer. It’s time for the youth of Ondo State to unite and raise their voices, pushing for the changes and accountability they deserve.
The future of Ondo State is in our hands, and the youths should not hesitate to demand better leadership and a brighter future for all. I believe these groups have all it takes to challenge the status quo. Should these Groups, Unions, and Associations remain silent, then the world would see the role played by this group as things continue to fall apart. Many have tagged the youth groups with negative names this is an opportunity to prove to the good people of Ondo State that they exist and are not puppets in the hands of politician.
