The leading Governorship aspirant in Ondo State, Professor Ibrahim Ajagunna has advised government at all levels to invest more in education as it is the most effective way out of poverty.
He made this known at the Quiz competition organized by National Association of Akoko North East Students (NANNES) for secondary school students in Ikare Akoko on Wednesday.
The entire Students of Akoko North East under the National Association of Akoko North East Students(NAANES) were thrown into excitement with the gesture of Prof. Ibrahim Ajagunna to increase the cash prizes for the Inter Secondary School Quiz Competition organized by the student body.
The National Association of Akoko North East Students had earlier announced the contest among the various secondary schools with the Akoko East Local Government Area of Ondo State in a bid to boost the academic potentials of the students.
The student association had initially intend to sponsor the program and present cash prizes of Twenty Thousand Naira (N20,000) and Fifteen Thousand Naira (N15,000) to contestants that emerge first and second positions respectively.
However, Prof. Ibrahim Ajagunna, the Deputy President of the Caribbean Maritime University, Jamaica, who came across their activities decided to support the initiative and increase the cash prizes to Fifty Thousand Naira (N50,000) and Thirty Thousand Naira (N30,000) for First and Second Positions respectively. Additionally, contestant in the Third Position will also be presented a cash prize of Fifteen Thousand Naira (N15,000).
Prof. Ibrahim Ajagunna, who is a frontline aspirant for 2024 Governorship election in Ondo State, said his decision was born out of his absolute commitment to education.
While appreciating the gesture, President of the association, Mr. Kolawole Abbas Olamilekan said the generosity and support of Prof. Ibrahim Ajagunna is unusual.
“On behalf all the students of Akoko North East, I sincerely appreciate Prof. Ajagunna for this unusual generosity, support and commitment to improving the lives of our students. We are very grateful”.
