No less than 1200 officials and members of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Akoko North West Local Government, National Secretary of the party’s Local Government, have resigned their positions and exited the party.
The erstwhile acting State Treasurer of SDP in Ondo State, Mr Aderemi Oluwatuyi (HOFAD), disclosed this while briefing newsmen shortly after the party’s Local Government Meeting in Ogbagi Akoko, the home town of her State Deputy Chairman, High Chief Olutope Adebambo, on Friday.
All the Local Government officials of the party and officials at the 10 wards level resigned from their positions and memberships of the party.
Hofad said the decision was reached by the officials, who unanimously agreed to show their solidarity to the State Deputy Chairman, whom he said had been “marginalised and unfairly treated by the party’s national leadership despite his sacrifices to keep the party afloat in the Local Government and the state as a whole and how the party is been used for business during electioniaring period”
Speaking, the party’s Local Government chairman, Chief Moses Aribisala, said that the party has become source of income for her national leaders, especially during election season , having deviated from the manifesto of the party, which has rendered them irrelevant in a party they had worked hard to build.
Also speaking, the Local Government Youth leader of the party, Mr Alaba Samuel said that the officials were not carried along by the party’s national leadership during any election. “The national leadership has taken us for a ride long enough, from intolerable attitude, to paying a deaf ear to our concerns. We refuse to be intimidated.” he said.
The party’s chairmen in Ogbagi, Oyin/Oge, Arigidi 1&2 ,and Oke Irun/Surulere Wards , respectively also said they have exited with no less than 1150 registered members in each Wards..
