The Majority Leader of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Hon. Oluwole Emmanuel Ogunmolasuyi (West), warmly received all the councillors from Owo Local Government Area (LGA) at his residence in Akure on March 5, 2025. The visit was a gesture of appreciation for his immense contributions to their success in the primary and general elections, which led to their emergence as elected representatives at the local government level.
The meeting also provided meaningful engagement as the councillors sought to deepen their understanding of the legislative process. Given Hon. Ogunmolasuyi’s wealth of experience in legislative affairs, the discussion centred around effective governance, policymaking, and the responsibilities of local government legislators.
During the interactive session, Hon. Ogunmolasuyi shared insights drawn from his tenure as the Majority Leader of the Ondo State House of Assembly. He emphasized the crucial role of councillors in grassroots development, urging them to address the needs of their respective wards proactively. “As elected representatives, you are the closest link between the government and the people at the grassroots. Your role in governance cannot be overemphasized. It is imperative that you remain accessible, accountable, and committed to the progress of your wards,” he stated.
Hon. Ogunmolasuyi also educated the councillors on legislative best practices, the importance of constituency engagement, and the need for collaboration between different levels of government to ensure sustainable development. He highlighted the significance of sponsoring motions and bills that directly benefit the people and the need for effective oversight in their respective constituencies.
Acknowledging their enthusiasm to learn, Hon. Ogunmolasuyi commended the councillors for their willingness to seek knowledge that would enhance their performance in office. He encouraged them to see their positions as a platform for service rather than personal gains, stressing that good governance begins with responsible leadership at the grassroots level.
“Leadership is about service and impact. As legislators, we must always put the interests of our people first. The knowledge and experience you acquire today should be used to make meaningful contributions to your communities,” he advised.
Furthermore, he assured them of his continued support and mentorship, pledging always to guide and collaborate with them in governance, policy formulation, and community development initiatives.
The councillors, in turn, expressed their profound gratitude to Hon. Ogunmolasuyi for his invaluable contributions during their electoral journey and for mentoring them on legislative responsibilities. They described him as a beacon of leadership and promised to implement the advice and knowledge from the session in their respective wards.
