As Nigeria celebrates Democracy Day, Hon. Oluwole Emmanuel Ogunmolasuyi, the Member representing Owo Constituency 1 in the Ondo State House of Assembly and outgoing Majority Leader, has called on Nigerians to reflect on the gains of democratic governance and remain steadfast in supporting the nation’s democratic journey.
In his goodwill message to commemorate the June 12 anniversary, Hon. Ogunmolasuyi noted that democracy remains the strongest path toward peace, inclusion, and national development. He reminded Nigerians that the significance of June 12 is rooted in the sacrifice, courage, and conviction of ordinary citizens who stood up for justice and electoral integrity.
“Today is a powerful reminder that the voice of the people matters. Democracy is not perfect, but it gives us the tools to shape our future through active participation, dialogue, and accountability,” he said.
Hon. Ogunmolasuyi charged citizens not to give in to hopelessness, cynicism, or apathy. Instead, he urged Nigerians to believe in the power of their civic responsibility and to be bold in speaking out on issues that affect their communities and the country as a whole.
“Our democracy can only grow stronger when citizens are involved, not just during elections but every day. Let us continue to question constructively, speak truth to power, and play our part in making Nigeria great,” he said. The lawmaker also used the occasion to reaffirm his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, applauding its determination to steer Nigeria through difficult economic and structural reforms. According to him, the President’s vision for renewed hope, inclusive governance, and economic sustainability requires the support of all Nigerians.
“These are not ordinary times. But I have full confidence that under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Nigeria is on the path to transformation. His bold economic policies and unwavering commitment to democratic ideals are commendable. Let us rally behind his vision, understanding that rebuilding a nation requires unity, courage, and time.”
Hon. Ogunmolasuyi concluded by encouraging Nigerians to uphold the spirit of June 12 by promoting peace, tolerance, and active citizenship in their daily lives. “As we mark Democracy Day, may we honour the past, engage the present, and build a future where every Nigerian, regardless of status or tribe, can find belonging and hope.”
