Residents of Ese community took to the streets in the early hours of yesterday to protest the deplorable condition of their major access roads, which has long been abandoned. The peaceful demonstration saw men, women, youths, and even the elderly joining forces to demand urgent government intervention.
According to the protesters, the roads have remained in a state of total neglect for decades, crippling economic activities and cutting off the community from neighboring towns and villages. They described the current state of the roads as a “death trap,” lamenting that several portions have become impassable and dangerous, especially during the rainy season.
The residents passionately appealed to Hon. Lucky to have mercy on them and come to their aid by facilitating the immediate construction of the the three major roads that connect the community with other towns(Ese-Ogbagu, Ese-Irun, and Ese-Afin Road). They expressed hope that their collective voice would prompt swift action to restore the road and revive the community’s struggling economy.
One of the community leaders, while addressing the crowd, emphasized that the protest was not politically motivated but born out of sheer frustration and the need for survival.
The protest ended peacefully, with residents vowing to continue pressing for government attention until tangible steps are taken to fix the roads.
