The Ogbagi Youth Assembly (OYA) has hosted its second edition of the Ogbagi Historical Knowledge Sharing Session, an event aimed at deepening historical awareness among youths in the community. The programme, held yesterday in Ogbagi Akoko, brought together young people to learn about their roots and cultural heritage, with organisers emphasizing that history is a lifelong pursuit.
The highlight of the event was a history quiz competition, which featured significant cash prizes. Mr. Nelso Atipo emerged overall winner, receiving ₦200,000. Ambassador Abiodun Oluborode initially finished second but, in accordance with OYA’s guidelines barring executive members from winning prizes to ensure fairness, the second-place prize of ₦75,000 was awarded to Miss Adeniyi Tolulope. The third-place prize of ₦50,000 went to Miss Awe Opeyemi, while other participants also received consolation tokens.
The president of the association, Hon. (Prince) Aderemi Oluwatuyi Joshua, said the initiative was motivated by noticeable gaps in young people’s knowledge of Ogbagi’s origins and history. He expressed concern that many youths no longer value history and culture, stressing that Ogbagi Akoko possesses a rich heritage that must be preserved and celebrated. According to him, culture and history remain integral parts of the community’s identity and way of life.
OYA executives commended all sons and daughters of Ogbagi who contributed to the success of the event. They also acknowledged sponsors of the quiz competition, including Prince Daniel Omolola, Hon. Thalis Apalowo, Hon. Aderemi Oluwatuyi Joshua, Otunba Kunle Olaleye, and several others who supported the initiative.
Special appreciation was extended to the Owa of Ogbagi, Oba Victor Adetona, for his leadership and for personally presenting prizes to the winners. The organisers prayed for the monarch’s continued reign and guidance.
Speaking after the event, the OYA President encouraged participants who did not win to remain hopeful, assuring them that another, even larger edition of the competition would be organised soon.
