As Ondo State marks its 50th anniversary, the Vice Chairman of Oyemekun Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Adeleye Oluwadamilare, has described the state as a beacon of peace, intellectual excellence, and sustainable development in Nigeria.
Speaking with journalists during activities to commemorate the golden jubilee celebration, Hon. Adeleye noted that Ondo State has, over the past five decades, distinguished itself as a land of highly intelligent, courageous, and culturally rooted people, blessed with vast natural resources and a strong educational heritage.
He stated that the state, fondly referred to as the “Sunshine State,” has continued to enjoy peace and stability, making it attractive for social and economic activities. According to him, Ondo State’s journey over the last 50 years reflects remarkable progress in both human and resource development.
Hon. Adeleye explained that successive administrations in the state have lived up to their responsibilities by delivering on promises made to the people, particularly in the provision of basic amenities and critical infrastructure. He said these cumulative efforts have placed Ondo State on the global map, attracting investors and visitors who benefit from the state’s growing opportunities and improving standard of living.
While acknowledging that challenges still exist, the Vice Chairman stressed that the achievements recorded so far are worthy of celebration, noting that Ondo State’s development trajectory is unique and not in competition with any other state in the country.
He highlighted the state’s achievements in education, healthcare, and security, describing them as key sectors for which Ondo State is widely recognized. In particular, he commended the Amotekun Corps, describing it as a nationally recognized security initiative pioneered in Ondo State and the South-West, which complements the efforts of the Nigeria Police Force in safeguarding lives and property.
Hon. Adeleye also applauded the current administration under Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for its sustainable governance and people-oriented projects. He said the governor has made a significant impact within a short time, especially at the grassroots and local government levels.
According to him, Governor Aiyedatiwa has sustained the legacies of past administrations by ensuring the completion of inherited projects while also deepening grassroots development. He added that the administration has empowered local council development areas by providing them with the necessary resources to function effectively and deliver dividends of democracy to the people.
“At 50, Ondo State now has a government that prioritizes rural integration and development,” Adeleye said, noting that rural communities are now closer to the government in terms of empowerment and access to benefits.
He further praised the administration’s focus on industrialization, peace, and economic growth, describing Ondo State as a peaceful environment where businesses can thrive. He disclosed that the government has embarked on establishing new industries, revitalizing industrial estates, and harnessing the state’s natural resources to combat unemployment, reduce poverty, and attract more investors.
The Vice Chairman also expressed satisfaction with the progress recorded in Oyemekun LCDA, citing various training programs and development initiatives implemented within the council area. He said the current administration has provided local leaders with the platform to serve their people effectively.
“We are proud not only to witness Ondo State’s 50th anniversary but to be active participants in its story of growth and development,” Hon. Adeleye concluded.
