Arsenal has defeated Barcelona to win the women’s Champions League on Saturday. The Gunners produced a shocking 1-0 victory courtesy of Stina Blackstenius’ goal from the bench.
Barcelona were the heavy favourites going into the final having won three of the last four Champions League titles and being on for a treble this season. However, it was Renee Slegers’ side who ended an 18-YEAR wait for an English team to win Europe’s top prize.
Barcelona had hit the bar and were piling on the pressure but super sub Blackstenius slotted home to see Arsenal bring the trophy back to London.
The Swedish striker’s drilled effort in the 74th minute, after being brought on from the substitute bench allowed Renee Slegers’ team to dethrone a feted Barcelona side who many have predicted to be the favorites.
