The Ondo State Governor has reportedly summoned the Commissioner for Women Affairs over allegations that she staged protests targeting the Presidency and the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Party sources who spoke on condition of anonymity said the Commissioner had been involved in organising repeated protests, including one held yesterday, with another allegedly being planned. According to the sources, the governor was not aware of the planned demonstrations prior to the summons.
The sources further alleged that the Commissioner has a reputation for what they described as overzealous and high-handed conduct, and that protesters involved in the demonstrations were allegedly paid between N5,000 and N8,000 to participate. It was further claimed that disputes arose during yesterday’s protest over incomplete payments, leading to tension between the organiser and some of the hired participants.
One party insider expressed concern over what they described as the brazenness of a serving commissioner organising protests against the Presidency and party leadership, questioning the political implications of such actions.
Additional claims from within the party described the Commissioner as a controversial figure within the state executive council, alleging that she has been involved in recurring disagreements during cabinet meetings and has faced calls for suspension from some stakeholders.
The sources also referenced a recent altercation involving the Commissioner and the Commissioner for Finance, describing it as part of ongoing internal tensions within the state government.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from the Ondo State Government regarding the allegations.
