An aspirant for the forthcoming House of Representatives bye election in Akoko North East/Akoko North West federal constituency, Nelson Aremo has stepped down from the race because of what he described as “the progress of the party”.
In a statement released after Aremo met with the Governor of Ondo state, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, he noted that the Governor’s intervention was key to his decision to step down.

The Bye-election in Akoko North West and Akoko North East has reached its peak, with numerous individuals actively participating in the electoral process. As a contestant in this election, I, Nelson Olalekan Aremo, find it crucial to address the issue of constituency 2, where we feel cheated and treated as second-class citizens. It is important to note that one of the most affected areas in Akoko North West constituency 2 is my noble town, Ogbagi. Even today, Ogbagi Akoko remains one of the largest wards in the state.
Furthermore, there is a concern regarding the involvement of certain individuals who claim to be leaders in Akoko North West constituency 2. They organized a kangaroo election, declaring Hon Araoyinbo, also known as Hon Sokoto, as the sole candidate in the constituency. It is worth mentioning that in all of Akoko North West constituency 2, Irun town has already had two representatives in the House of Representatives. Therefore, it is highly unjust to bring in Hon Sokoto again as the sole candidate.
In light of these circumstances, it is crucial to highlight that the Governor of Ondo State, H.E. Hon Lucky Orisanmi Ayedatiwa, has intervened in the matter. I was personally called to a meeting with the Governor, where we discussed the importance of maintaining the security of the state. As a responsible citizen, I must obey the Governor’s directives, as he is deeply passionate about the welfare of the state and has numerous responsibilities to fulfill.
It is important for my supporters to understand that I, Nelson Aremo, am only following the Governor’s will and cannot go against it. However, it is essential to clarify that I will always stand in support of the party, and my loyalty to the party is unwavering. I am willing to abide by the decision of the party to promote unity and love for the growth of our community and our country as a whole.
Ladies and gentlemen,In conclusion, the Bye-election has reached its peak. Me stepping down is for the progress of the party and for the interests of Akoko north west. Again the Involvement of Mr governor, H.E Hon lucky Orisanmi Aiyedatiwa who is the number one citizen of the state and the first man of our great party APC. It’s very hard but it’s a must for peace of the state and the involvement of the governor.
