A group of concerned Ikale elites has called on Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, to intervene in what they described as inappropriate conduct by his Chief of Protocol, Mr. Abayomi Olasanya, warning that the situation could threaten political harmony in the state.
In an open letter addressed to the governor, the group—comprising Ikale indigenes at home and in the diaspora— and signed by Ajanaku Oluwaduyilemi expressed concern over alleged statements credited to Olasanya, in which he reportedly claimed authority to determine who represents the Ikale people politically.
The group said such assertions, if true, were inconsistent with democratic principles and the dignity of the governor’s office, stressing that Ikale people have a long-standing tradition of independently choosing their leaders.
They highlighted the area’s political history, noting that Ikaleland has produced several prominent figures, including former governor and minister Olusegun Agagu, as well as other distinguished leaders who served with honour at various levels of government.
According to the letter, any suggestion that an appointed aide could influence or determine political representation in Ikaleland undermines the rights and intelligence of the people, while also creating an impression that unelected officials wield undue influence within the administration.
The group further warned that such developments could strain the long-standing relationship between Ikale and Ilaje communities, which they described as historically peaceful and mutually beneficial.
They emphasized that the role of Chief of Protocol is administrative rather than political, urging the governor to clearly define the boundaries of the office to prevent further controversy.
The concerned elites therefore called on Governor Aiyedatiwa to direct his aide to refrain from involvement in political matters relating to Ikaleland and to focus strictly on his official responsibilities.
They maintained that swift intervention would help preserve public confidence and sustain the peace Ondo State is known for.
Reaffirming their support for the administration, the group stated that the Ikale people would continue to exercise their democratic right to freely choose their representatives without external interference.
