Youth leaders, students, community stakeholders, and friends have gathered to honour the memory of Late Ambassador Adojutelegan Abiola Mayowa, popularly known as DarkMayor, at a one-year memorial celebrating his life and enduring legacy.
The event, themed “Legacy of Service: Celebrating a Life of Leadership and Impact,” brought together young leaders and community actors committed to sustaining the ideals of service, leadership, and social responsibility that defined the late activist.
Speaking at the memorial, Chairman of the Planning Committee, Lanre Famous, described the deceased as a symbol of courage, dedication, and selfless leadership, noting that his impact continues to inspire a new generation of youths. He explained that the gathering was not only to remember a fallen comrade but also to translate remembrance into continued service to humanity and community development.
Delivering the memorial lecture, Prince Charlz Olusa, Deputy Registrar of Students’ Affairs at Adekunle Ajasin University, urged young people to emulate the values of the late Mayowa, emphasizing that true leadership is measured through service, sacrifice, and positive societal impact.
The programme also featured a health talk by Prince Oyekan, Vice Chairman of MLS in Nigeria, who encouraged participants to prioritize their well-being, stressing that good health remains essential for productivity, leadership, and national development.
On behalf of the family, Adojutelegan Adesoji Aridunnu expressed appreciation to friends, colleagues, and organizers for honouring the memory of the deceased and sustaining his legacy through meaningful initiatives.
The presence of the deceased’s daughter, Abiola Irenimofe Vandora, added emotional significance to the event. In tribute to her father’s legacy, she donated educational books to St. Paul Anglican Church, reflecting the family’s commitment to education and community service.
Participants described the memorial as a powerful reminder that impactful lives continue to inspire even after death. Organizers reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining annual initiatives that promote youth leadership and community service in honour of the late activist.
The event concluded with renewed pledges by attendees to uphold the values of unity, leadership, and humanitarian service championed by the late Adojutelegan Abiola Mayowa.
