The Isowopo Youth Forum has called on political leaders and stakeholders in Akoko North East Local Government Area of Ondo State to ensure fairness and equitable distribution of political offices, urging that the House of Assembly seat remain within the Isowopo axis.
In a press release dated May 3, 2026, and signed by Comrade Olorunfemi Israel Ayomiotan on behalf of the forum’s president, Princess Sunmisola Babalola-Osho, the group stressed the need for justice, inclusiveness, and balanced representation across the constituency.
The forum acknowledged the contributions of political leaders to the development of the area but expressed concern over what it described as a concentration of key political positions in one axis of the local government.
According to the statement, several strategic offices—including the senatorial seat, commissioner position, executive chairman, vice chairman, secretary to the local government, six out of seven supervisory councillors, as well as key party leadership roles—are currently occupied by individuals from outside the Isowopo axis.
The group argued that, given this imbalance, it is only fair for the remaining elective position—the Member of the House of Assembly (MHA), which represents six communities within Isowopo—to be retained in the axis.
“We wish to firmly but respectfully state that Isowopo should not be seen merely as a voting base. Our people deserve not only to participate in elections but also to benefit fairly from the dividends of democracy,” the statement read.
The forum maintained that equitable political representation is essential to fostering unity and ensuring that all parts of the local government have a sense of belonging.
It therefore called on all stakeholders to act in good conscience by allowing the Assembly seat to remain in Isowopo, describing the move as critical to promoting political harmony and strengthening democratic values in Akoko North East.
The group concluded by urging leaders to be guided by fairness, justice, and mutual respect in their decision-making process.
