The Ondo State Commissioner for Water Resources, Public Sanitation and Hygiene, Honourable Ayodele Akande, FCA, has called on Nigerians, particularly residents of Ondo State and Akoko North West, to remain committed to democratic values, be security conscious, and actively participate in community development.
Akande made the call on June 12, 2026, during this year’s Democracy Day commemoration while speaking with journalists in Akure, the state capital.
He said Democracy Day serves not only as a celebration of Nigeria’s democratic journey but also as a reminder of the sacrifices made by heroes who fought for the sustenance of democratic governance.
The Commissioner urged citizens to uphold unity, peace, accountability, tolerance, and respect for the rule of law, stressing that democracy can only thrive through active civic participation.
He also emphasized that security remains a collective responsibility, calling on residents to remain vigilant and support security agencies with timely information to address emerging threats.
Akande commended Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for his commitment to developing Ondo State through key interventions in infrastructure, healthcare delivery, public service reforms, and security strengthening.
According to him, the administration has recorded notable achievements that have improved living standards and created an enabling environment for growth and investment.
He further acknowledged the supportive role of the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (PBAT) in strengthening democratic governance and driving development policies across the country.
He further appealed for sustained support for the Aiyedatiwa-led administration, noting that such cooperation is vital for effective governance and successful implementation of government policies.
The Commissioner also encouraged residents to maintain proper sanitation, protect public infrastructure, and support democratic institutions for sustainable development.
He congratulated the people of Ondo State and Nigerians on Democracy Day, expressing optimism that the state will continue to experience progress, peace, and good security under Governor Aiyedatiwa’s leadership.
