Honourable Lateef Jakande, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Ondo State House of Assembly, Akoko North West Constituency II, has called on constituents to be more democratic in their daily dealings and interactions.
He made the call on June 12, 2026, in his hometown of Afin Akoko, while addressing journalists and residents of the constituency as part of activities marking this year’s Democracy Day celebration.
According to him: “As we commemorate Democracy Day, I join millions of Nigerians in celebrating the resilience of our democratic journey and honoring the sacrifices of those who stood for justice, freedom, and the right of the people to choose their leaders.”
He emphasized that democracy goes beyond a system of government and should be reflected in everyday conduct.
“Democracy is more than a system of government; it is a commitment to accountability, participation, equity, and service to the people. It reminds us that the true strength of any society lies in the collective voice of its citizens and their active involvement in governance.”
Honourable Jakande urged residents to continue upholding the values of peace, unity, tolerance, and mutual respect.
Lateef said “On this important occasion, I urge us all to continue to uphold the values of peace, unity, tolerance, and mutual respect. Let us remain steadfast in our commitment to democratic principles and work together for the growth and development of our constituency.”
The APC candidate noted that he remains inspired by the aspirations of the people for quality representation, improved infrastructure, youth empowerment, educational advancement, economic opportunities, and enhanced social welfare.
According to him, achieving these goals requires collective effort, visionary leadership, and sustained civic engagement.
He further stated: “Democracy flourishes when leaders are accountable and citizens remain actively involved in shaping their future. I therefore encourage every resident of our constituency to continue contributing positively to community development and to remain hopeful about the brighter future that lies ahead.”
In his closing remarks, Honourable Jakande called on the people of Akoko North West Constituency II to renew their faith in democratic governance and work together toward a better future.
