A public affairs advocate and Convener of the Ondo State Scholars Arena, Odofin Oluwafemi Olusegun, has called on Lucky Aiyedatiwa to urgently address the deplorable condition of the Ore–Okitipupa road, describing the route as a critical economic link that has fallen into disrepair.
In an open letter addressed to the governor, Olusegun—also known by his comradic name “C-Banking”—recounted his recent experience travelling to his hometown in Okitipupa, noting that while parts of the journey were smooth, the stretch between Ore and Okitipupa had deteriorated significantly.
According to him, the road is riddled with deep potholes and collapsing edges, making it barely passable for motorists and exposing commuters to risks, delays, and frequent vehicle damage. He described the condition as “embarrassing” and called on the governor to personally assess the situation.
Olusegun acknowledged ongoing infrastructure projects across Ondo State but stressed that the neglect of the Ore–Okitipupa axis undermines the economic importance of the southern senatorial district, which he described as the “cash cow” of the state.
He further noted that the road serves as a vital corridor linking four local government areas—Okitipupa, Irele, Ilaje, and Ese-Odo—two of which play a key role in the state’s oil-producing status.
The scholar also referenced earlier legislative efforts by Ibrahim Jimoh, who reportedly raised a motion in the National Assembly seeking the inclusion of the Ore–Okitipupa road in the Federal Government’s rehabilitation programme along the Akure–Ore corridor.
While acknowledging that federal intervention may still be pending, Olusegun urged the Ondo State Government to ensure continuous maintenance of the road to keep it motorable in the interim.
He added that the road also leads to the governor’s ancestral home, emphasizing that such a strategic route should not require public appeals before receiving attention.
Olusegun concluded by expressing hope that the Ondo State Ministry of Works would act swiftly to address the situation and alleviate the hardship faced by commuters and residents in the region.
