A political support group in Ondo State has petitioned the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) over the alleged vandalisation of campaign billboards promoting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu across the state.
In a letter addressed to the State Director of the DSS and the Commissioner of Police, the group, Asiwaju Mandate Group, condemned what it described as a deliberate destruction of its publicity materials, warning that such actions threaten democratic tolerance and peaceful political engagement.
The group stated that it had erected a total of 17 billboards across Ondo State, with 12 located in Akure, the state capital. However, it alleged that several of the billboards had been vandalised and torn by unidentified individuals.
According to the petition signed by its Chief Security Officer, Hon. Olatunji Jackson, evidence gathered from a tour around Akure showed clear signs of damage to the billboards.
Describing the act as unacceptable, the group maintained that there is no significant political opposition in the state to justify such hostility, and urged security agencies to intervene promptly.
The group called on the DSS and the police force to issue a stern warning to political actors and ensure adequate protection of its campaign materials going forward.
The pro-Tinubu group also reiterated its commitment to democratic values, particularly tolerance and peaceful coexistence, while appealing for swift action to prevent a recurrence of the incident.
