Renowned entrepreneur, politician and philanthropist, Chief Dele Omosehin, has charged young people in Ondo State to take their careers seriously, embrace hard work and think beyond conventional limits if they hope to succeed in today’s highly competitive world.
Chief Omosehin gave the charge while delivering a goodwill lecture at the maiden launch of the Ondo State Youth Network Magazine, the first publication produced by what the organisers described as the largest youth platform in Ondo State.
According to the organisers, Chief Omosehin’s invitation was informed by his outstanding record of service, entrepreneurial accomplishments and enduring contributions to society. They noted that his impact across business and community development has established him as a distinguished personality whose legacy speaks eloquently for itself.
The leadership of OSYN explained that, given his remarkable success in business and wealth of experience, they believed his inspiring life story and practical insights would encourage, motivate and equip young people as they pursue entrepreneurial excellence and sustainable careers.
Addressing hundreds of youths at the event, Chief Omosehin urged them to abandon the culture of excessive dependence on government and instead channel their energy towards productivity, innovation and self development.
“Stop complaining and hustle harder,” he advised. “Your hands and your sweat will never betray you. People may make promises and fail to fulfil them, but the value you create with your own hands will always speak for you.”
He further encouraged the youths to become intentional about how they spend their time, warning against excessive consumption of online content that adds little value to personal growth.
Drawing from his personal experience, Chief Omosehin narrated how he began hustling from an early age by hawking various items during his primary school years to support his parents. He also recalled driving a taxi while studying at the University of Ilorin to earn a living before relocating to the United States, where he continued driving taxis to finance his education.
“Nothing comes easy,” he said. “Every meaningful success requires sacrifice, discipline, resilience and consistency.”
The business leader also cautioned young people against cultism and other social vices, describing them as destructive paths capable of ruining promising futures. He urged them to channel their youthful strength into productive ventures that would secure long-term prosperity.
“This is the time to use your energy positively and build your future,” he said.
Reflecting on Nigeria’s political history, Chief Omosehin observed that many of the nation’s founding leaders assumed positions of responsibility before the age of 35, stressing that although such opportunities may now be less common, young people must continue preparing themselves through competence, character and leadership development.
He further encouraged the youths to adopt a global mindset, reminding them that success today requires continuous learning, innovation and competitiveness beyond local boundaries.
Chief Omosehin also revealed that his decision to honour the invitation was driven by his unwavering belief in the younger generation.
“I came because this is a youth programme. If it wasn’t centred on the youth, I probably wouldn’t have attended. I believe strongly in young people because the future of Nigeria rests largely on their shoulders,” he stated.
Emphasising the importance of practical knowledge, he advised participants not to rely solely on academic certificates. Quoting the late Nigerian statesman, Obafemi Awolowo, he reminded the audience that “a certificate is only a piece of paper; what you make out of it is what truly matters.”
He therefore encouraged young people to acquire practical skills capable of solving real life problems and creating sustainable sources of income.
In his closing remarks, Chief Omosehin commended the Ondo State Youth Network and its leadership for producing what he described as a world!class magazine. He praised the publication for its rich content, attractive presentation, and professional quality, noting that the time, creativity!and dedication invested in the project reflected the seriousness and commitment of the organisation.
He expressed confidence that the publication would serve as a platform for youth development, knowledge sharing, and the promotion of excellence across Ondo State and beyond.
The maiden edition of the OSYN Magazine launch attracted youth leaders, entrepreneurs, professionals, students, and other stakeholders, reinforcing the growing commitment of the Ondo State Youth Network to youth empowerment, leadership development and entrepreneurship.
