The media team of Hon. Raymond Oluwatoyin Daodu (ROD) has rejected claims challenging the outcome of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for Akoko South West Constituency I, insisting that Daodu remains the duly elected candidate of the party.
In a statement titled “Setting the Record Straight – The People Have Spoken, and ROD Has Won,” the group described a recent publication by individuals it referred to as “Concerned Stakeholders” as misleading, alleging that it was aimed at overturning the outcome of the primary in favour of Hon. Akogun Olugbenga Omole.
The statement maintained that Daodu emerged victorious through the votes of accredited delegates, arguing that grassroots popularity should ultimately be measured by delegates’ decisions rather than campaign visibility.
Responding to allegations surrounding the conduct of the primary, the ROD Media Team alleged that the process was marred by attempts to manipulate the exercise, including claims of intimidation, missing result sheets, and the deployment of state machinery. The group, however, did not provide evidence in the statement to substantiate the allegations.
The media team further accused Daodu’s political opponents of orchestrating sustained propaganda against him, alleging that false narratives, doctored materials, and sponsored publications had been deployed in an attempt to undermine his candidacy.
The statement also claimed that Daodu had previously been pressured by unnamed political figures to abandon his ambition in favour of another aspirant after joining the APC from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). According to the group, he declined the request and remained committed to pursuing his aspiration.
The ROD Media Team defended Daodu’s political alliance with Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, dismissing criticisms of the relationship and describing political alliances within the APC as legitimate.
Calling on party members to accept the outcome of the primary, the group insisted that appeals challenging Daodu’s emergence would not succeed and urged opponents to unite behind what it described as the party’s choice for the constituency.
The statement concluded with a call for party unity, expressing confidence that Daodu would lead the APC into the forthcoming election in Akoko South West Constituency I.
Neither Hon. Akogun Olugbenga Omole nor the group identified as the “Concerned Stakeholders” had responded to the latest statement at the time of filing this report.
